The Hurricanes, with the 5th overall, pick chose Elias Lindholm, an 18 year old Swedish Elite Player. I don't agree with the pick since I see no immediate need for another center. Reading about the situation it looks like if he doesn't make the NHL team this year he will go back to his team in Sweden and not play in the AHL so I don't know what Rutherford was thinking. In the 2nd round (in a bit of a shocker), the Canes traded Jamie McBain and their pick for Andrej Sekera. At least it was a defenseman but I don't think he is the answer or what any fans were hoping for.
Now that Tampa Bay has bought out my favorite hockey player Mr. Vincent Lecavalier I have to wait and find out what new team's shirt I need to buy with Vinny's name on the back!
Already looking forward to hockey season but after today am a little worried about the product the Hurricanes are going to put on the ice.

So Cute
The husband gets so excited every time we drive by the construction site where the new Zaxby's will be. Since he only likes simple food like chicken fingers or burgers this kind of place becomes a favorite. A few years ago we showed up to a new Red Robin (another of his favorites) the first day we saw cars in the parking lot only to find out it was open for friends and family only. When the man noticed how disappointed my husband was they let us come in and eat for free too.
It doesn't take much to make him happy. I am a lucky lady!

Thunderstorms
Ready for a day without rain, thunder and lightning. It has been weeks of daily storms. Hoping this weather pattern changes soon.

Kids Are Funny
Walking through Target tonight we heard a little voice say "hey dummy - look, it's Mario". We were an aisle over so we couldn't see what they were talking about but that was good because they couldn't see us giggle.
I have since found it fun to say "hey dummy" to get the husband's attention tonight.

Who Knew?
While watching my favorite baby today I put the TV on Toddler Tunes since she loves music and got to hear these two gems:
Who knew toddlers had their own music station and good taste?

Change?
Tomorrow is my hair appointment for cut and color. I am taking off a couple inches and going back to layers but getting rid of the red in back. What about a purple tint all over??? Can't decide.

Playoff Hockey
Not a big fan of playoff beards but I appreciate the meaning and team spirit. However I am digging Patrick Kane and his hockey mullet this post season!

Pool Time
Today I got some much needed sun today at the neighborhood pool.
A couple years ago our neighborhood decided to put in a huge kid pool with a slide and a shallow side for little ones. This pool has been closed all week due to glass found in it. Rumor around the hood is some jerk brought in a beer bottle that broke. What kind of person just has to have their beer in a bottle at a pool full of families? It is a neighborhood pool that closes at dark - it is not a party pool. Some people have no common curtesy and only think of themselves.
Even if this rumor isn't true someone brought something glass to a pool where little kids play with no regard for their safety. I hope Karma is real!

Home Sweet Home
Every time we go to the beach we talk about our future beach house or condo. I think we have decided it will probably be Myrtle Beach in a condo on a high floor.
I might have to get a job to start saving some money so this dream will happen sooner. I want to be young enough to enjoy years at the beach and not too old where it is a bother to get there and we are too tired to have fun.

RailHawks vs Chivas USA
What a great game! We don't go to many soccer games but we have so much fun when we do.
RailHawks won 3-1 and will continue on in the US Open Cup.
I love sports pre-game activities and one reason I appreciate soccer is because when the players come out of the tunnel both teams have kids with them. Each kid stands by a player through starting line-ups and the national anthem - so sweet and a great way to grow a sport and fan base.

Puppy Play-date
Tonight Jack had a play-date with the new puppy next door. They met in the front yard and were getting along so we brought them in the back yard to run. The puppy is all legs and can out run Jack but boy was it fun watching them play. We are all very happy to have a sweet new puppy next door.

Stupid Phone
I will never fully understand all aspects of how to back up and restore my iPhone. I just wanted to move my pictures and some music off of my phone and clean up some unwanted apps and get space back. After an hour trying to figure out what the "other" junk is on my iPhone, I give up!

Gigi's Cheesecakes
Had a turtle cheesecake from Gigi's today. I wondered if the frosting on top would be too sweet but nope, it was perfect. I might even say it was the best piece of cheesecake I have ever had and I likey my cheesecake!

Cinnamon???
Last night the husband had a dream that we were getting a new puppy. This was not a happy dream since we were getting a puppy because one of our dogs was no longer with us. Poor Jack was replaced by a cute shepherd mix puppy named Cinnamon.
Needless to say I have hugged Jack all day. He may have been a terrible puppy and still walks to the beat of his own drum but he is a sweet boy and I can't picture life without him.

Guest Blog: Bad Day
This is a guest blog by the husband.
Yesterday I had to take a day trip to Washington (D.C., not the state, though I wouldn't put it past work to ask me to do a day trip to the latter) to attend some meetings at a client site. I hate travel for work because I don't like how much time it takes, I don't care about hotel points or airline miles or fancy meals and I don't like being away from the wife. Work has been bugging me to travel so I thought a day trip was a good compromise. It's a long day since I got up before 5 AM and I wouldn't be home until 9:30 at night (and I would work a 9-5 day at the client's office) but at least I didn't have to be away for the night and I could travel light.
I like to cut it close at the airport but I got there with 10 minutes to spare so I thought I'd use the restroom before I boarded the plane. I go into a stall to hang my bag, proceed to do my business (just a little number one) and as I zip up my pants, the zipper pull come clean off my pants and flies into the toilet. I probably stood there for a minute deciding what to do since of course I didn't have another pair of pants as I wasn't staying over the night. Nothing was ripped or anything so I thought I could maybe fix it good enough where at least my fly wouldn't be wide open all day. That led to me making a tough decision.
Yep, I rolled up my sleeve and stuck my hand in the toilet and pulled out my zipper. After several minutes of washing my hands and the zipper, I went back into the stall and attempted to fix my pants. That did not work. At all. There was no way to get it back on there so that was a waste of time. After another minute of trying to figure out what do, I considered super glue (really) and then I thought maybe the gift store would have safety pins. Thankfully they did so I bought them and went back to the bathroom. This did not go well.
Getting the fly to close enough while not having a big pin sticking out was trickier than I thought. It was made worse when I look down and there is blood on my khaki pants right on the fly. My fingers don't have a ton of feeling in the tips due to carpal tunnel surgery years ago so I didn't know I had pricked myself until I saw the blood. After cleaning that up so it wasn't noticeable, I heard an announcement saying my flight was boarding and then I hear my name being called. At this point I have one pin in that barely keeps my fly closed but I go running like an idiot where the guy at the gate laughs and tells me that they're backed up boarding so I have a few minutes. Then why did you announce you're closing the cabin doors?
Once I got to DC I went back to the bathroom and tried to fix it up a little with only minor success. I looked for a place to buy pants but by this point I had to catch a taxi anyway so I just went to the client. Thankfully I got there first and went to the bathroom where I could sit down and do a better job. At least I got it so it looked closed, though if you looked closely you could see a little silver of the pins in places. The only bad part of that was that to go to the bathroom the rest of the day, I had shimmy my pants halfway down to do my business. That wasn't fun at all.
No one said anything to me but I'm sure some people saw and wondered what the heck was wrong with me. To top off my bad day, it took me forever to walk to the Metro station because graduations were getting out and the sidewalks were clogged with elderly folks taking up the entire width of the sidewalk. When I got the train station, the first machine wouldn't take my credit card so I had to wait in line again where I bought my ticket. I got to catch the train but there's no Blue line in that station. What the hell? Turns out there's two stations with similar names but one is West and one is North and all I remembered was the main name so of course, I went to the wrong one. I exit the station, walk to the right one and catch my train. The train got delayed by some backed up trains at the Pentagon and the AC did not appear to be working. I finally get off the train at the airport where I realized they charged me $3.10 to enter and exit the same station when I made my mistake. The exit fare machine only took cash - $1s and $5s - none of which I had. I went to the attendant to see what to do but thankfully she just took my ticket and let me exit. I pretty much looked like an idiot the entire day.
Then my next dilemma was whether my pins would set off the metal detector. I decided to go for it and of course, the millimeter wave scanner sees something so they pat me down (but on the back, which didn't make any sense). At least I didn't have to explain that I had pins holding my pants together, although I'm sure the people reviewing the scans got a good laugh (since laughing at small wieners all day probably gets old).
Lastly, my flight was delayed over an hour so that was fun. Thankfully I got home at 10:30 PM where we watched the Bruins win in 2OT (blech). This is why I hate travel for work.

CMT Music Awards
Some thoughts while watching:
Kristen Bell is delightful!
I haven't always been a big Miranda Lambert fan but lately I am loving her music.
I love hockey and country music but Mike Fisher looks out of place. Stop showing him - he looks lost and his hair looks terrible.
Watching this really makes me want to go to Nashville!!!
Luke Bryan - Crash My Party - enough said.
It is impressive that most of these artists not only sing but write songs and play instruments. I find myself in awe of those talents.
This is Florida Georgia Line's night with 2 awards. They are fun and I like them and their catchy tunes.
Taylor Swift always looks like she is having fun dancing and singing to everyone else's songs. I like that she is also a fan.

Hit Bull Won Steak
Shelley Duncan hit a home run today that hit the bull at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
It says "Hit Bull Win Steak" and "Hit Grass Win Salad".
I was wearing my Shelley Duncan Yankees t-shirt and celebrated his home run so enthusiastically that the lady behind us asked if he was my brother.
It was the first time we have seen a home run hit the Bull.

Raleigh Farmers Market
Today was the first time I have been to a farmers market. It was huge - there were a ton of people and was kinda hot outside. We saw a lot of great fruits and veggies but I only came home with homemade pumpkin butter, brownies and cookies. You know, the important stuff.
